Soother Size Guide
Lullaby Planet Soother Size Guide
When buying a soother for your baby, it's important to find the right size. The right size soother will hit the exact spot in your baby's mouth where their sucking reflex is. If the soother is too big or too small, it won't activate the sucking reflex, thus missing its purpose - to provide comfort and reassurance to your baby.
Here's a breakdown of Lullaby Planet's two soother sizes: size 1 and size 2.
Size 1 soothers are designed for babies from 0-6 months. They are smaller and than size 2 soothers, which makes them easier for newborns to use. Size 1 soothers have a slightly shorter and smaller teat that fits comfortably inside a newborn's mouth. If you have a newborn, it's recommended to use a size 1 soother.
Size 2 soothers are designed for babies who are 6 months and up. They are larger size 1 soothers. Size 2 soothers have a slightly longer and bigger teat that fits comfortably in an older baby's mouth. The larger size can also make it easier for babies to hold onto their soothers, which can be helpful as they start to develop their motor skills.
Having said that, it is also important to stress that this does not mean that you should follow the age instructions provided by the manufacturers - these are only indicative.
That's because babies' mouths and palates differ greatly. For example, if your baby has a very high palate, a larger size soother may be needed. In addition, sizes vary greatly from brand to brand. Brand A's size 3 may be the same as brand B's size 2. Therefore, the most important thing when choosing a soother is to choose the one that suits your baby and suits your baby's sucking reflex.
It may take some trial and error to find the right size and type of soother that your baby prefers. You can read more about the different shapes of soothers in this guide.
